Using Globus Connect

Using Globus Connect

The Globus service can be used to connect to Setonix scratch and/or an Acacia project at Pawsey.

Disclaimer: Please be aware that, to access Acacia, you will need to entrust your S3 credentials to the Globus Connect service. It is your responsibility to ensure that this does not conflict with your home institution’s security policies.

Step 1 - Sign up to Globus

Go to app.globus.org and sign up for the Globus service. Ideally, you should use your home institution (eg Curtin, CSIRO, UWA, etc.) to authenticate. If your home institution is not available, then you can consider one of the alternative signups. However, if you don't sign up via your home institution then please be aware that it may not be possible to link your Globus identity to your Pawsey identity and the service effectively won't work.

Step 2 - Mapping your Globus identity to your Pawsey service account

This step is not fully automated and requires you to contact us.

Currently, the best way to configure the service is to attempt to access a Pawsey resource and, after it fails, inform us of your attempt with as many details as possible (ie time, date, the home institution you used to sign up with) and then we can correctly map your Globus identity to your Pawsey identity.

Step 3 - Accessing data at Pawsey

Once your identity has been correctly mapped, you should be able to access the Setonix scratch resource right away. However, there are a few more steps required to gain access to Acacia. You will need to grant any permission consent requests and you will also need to provide the Acacia S3 credentials for the Pawsey project you wish to access. Please refer to the https://pawsey.atlassian.net/wiki/x/-E0YAw for information on creating S3 credentials.

FAQ

In principle, yes, but this has not been tested. If you want to try this, you will have to follow the instructions here: Globus Connect Personal Installation

Currently, it is only possible to configure the Acacia endpoint with a single default set of credentials. This limits the Globus service to displaying only the buckets in a single Acacia project. However, additional (non-default) credentials and bucket names can be manually added to the Acacia configuration.
