Invitation

Do you like a challenge? Are you interested in research?  Would you like to improve your compute skills? Are you interested in using the fastest computer in Australia and getting paid to do so?  The Pawsey Supercomputing Centre Summer Internship program is to enable undergraduate students to develop skills in computational science by giving students the opportunity to immerse themselves in advanced computing research projects. Interns are supervised by leading researchers and undertake challenging research projects utilising the resources provided by the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre. Supervisors and sponsors benefit from the opportunity to understand the technologies and learn new techniques for their research area.

The internships are open to 3rd year, higher undergraduate students (including honours) or Masters students at Australian higher education institutions looking to complement their discipline knowledge with hands-on experience using the leadership class computing resources at the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre.

About Summer Internships

Pawsey Supercomputing Centre Summer Internships run for approximately 10 weeks during the period November/December through to February. The award is $7,600 per student, fully funded by Pawsey Supercomputing Centre and/or sponsoring organisations. Applicants must not have held a Pawsey Supercomputing Centre Summer Internship in the past and students must be available for the whole internship period (no part funding).

As a condition of the award, interns will be expected to:

  • attend a one week induction in late November/early December
  • make satisfactory progress across the internship period
  • submit a project report
  • give a poster presentation at the completion of the internship

Student applications will be assessed on the individual student’s merit.  Application form contains full details.

We are also involved with ICRAR Internships

The Pawsey Supercomputing Centre and ICRAR also co-fund summer internships. There is a separate application and a list of projects, can be found here: ICRAR studentships.  You can apply for both the ICRAR and Pawsey Summer Internships but need to fill out both student applications.
