The Globus service can be used to connect to Setonix scratch and/or an Acacia project at Pawsey.

Disclaimer: Please be aware that, to access Acacia, you will need to entrust your S3 credentials to the Globus Connect service. It is your responsibility to ensure that this does not conflict with your home institution’s security policies.

Step 1 - Sign up to Globus

Go to app.globus.org and sign up for the Globus service. Ideally, you should use your home institution (eg Curtin, CSIRO, UWA, etc.) to authenticate. If your home institution is not available, then you can consider one of the alternative signups. However, if you don't sign up via your home institution then please be aware that it may not be possible to link your Globus identity to your Pawsey identity and the service effectively won't work.

Step 2 - Mapping your Globus identity to your Pawsey service account

Currently, this step is not fully automated and the best way to do it is to attempt to access a Pawsey resource and, after it fails, inform us of your attempt with as many details as possible (ie time, date, the home institution you used to sign up with) and then we can correctly map your Globus identity to your Pawsey identity.

Globus requires your permission to access Acacia (store your keys)

Step 3 - Accessing data at Pawsey

Once everything has been configured and approved, you will need to enter the Acacia S3 credentials for the project you wish to access. Please refer to the https://pawsey.atlassian.net/wiki/x/-E0YAw for information on creating S3 credentials for the particular Acacia project you wish to access. Finally, no further authentication step is required to add the Setonix scratch resource.

FAQ

Can I use the Globus Connect app instead of the web interface shown above?

In principle, yes, but this has not been tested. If you want to try this, you will have to follow the instructions here: Globus Connect Personal Installation

How do I access multiple acacia projects?

As you cannot currently enter multiple Acacia keys into the Globus web interface, the service is limited to connecting to a single Acacia project at a time. You would have to delete the credentials Globus has stored and enter a new set if you wanted to connect to a different Acacia project.
