titleStep 1: Apply for access

Vaccination Requirements


CSIRO requires that all visitors to CSIRO sites be fully vaccinated or exempt as defined by federal government. Vaccination status will be checked by staff on your first visit to the vis lab.

All users who wish to access the visualisation lab must apply.

titleStep 2: Complete an induction

You will be contacted via Pawsey helpdesk ticket to organise an induction session for you and your team.

Contents of induction:


  • Building induction (emergency exits, bathrooms etc)
  • Using the system
  • Leaving the room


Once you have completed the induction you will be able to make bookings using the reservation system.

titleStep 3: Book the Lab

Login to the Reservation Portal

Login to Reservation Portal (https://reservation.pawsey.org.au/) using your Pawsey username and password:

After first login to Reservation Portal, please let us know by emailing help@pawsey.org.au.

You must adjust your time zone settings in order to get accurate booking times. From the top menu bar, select:

My Account → Profile


You can also customise what notifications you would like to receive. From the top menu bar, select:

My Account → Notification Preferences

Create a booking

From the top menu bar, select:

Schedule → Bookings

a) Select visualisation lab from the dropdown menu

b) Click on the desired start time you wish to book

titleStep 4: Accessing the Visualisation Lab

Once you have booked a session in the vis lab, and it has been approved in the booking system, you can access the room.

Access will be either supervised or unsupervised depending on the project and usage type.


The Pawsey centre is located at 1 Bryce Avenue Kensington, and parking is available directly opposite the entrance

If you are being supported by a Pawsey staff member, they will meet you at the glass doors.

The visualisation Lab is the first door on the right as you enter the Pawsey Centre.

titleStep 5: Leaving the Visualisation Lab

When exiting the vis lab, the following equipment must be stored away and accounted for:

titleUsing the touch control system

The touchscreen on the desk is used to control the system.

Power on the system by pressing the green power button:

Changing input source

You can change the input source shown on screen:

PC1: Windows

PC2: Backup Windows 

PC3: Linux (Centos)



The desk monitor can be set to follow the source on the main screen, or changed independently:



Controlling the sound volume

Change the speaker volume with the slider at the bottom of the screen:


Controlling the screen brightness

Light output controls the brightness of the CLED screen:


Controlling the room lights

You can control the room lighting from the main touch panel:

You can also control the lighting from the touch panel near the door.

titleUsing the windows machine

Logging in

Log in to Windows using your Pawsey username and password:



Using applications

All applications not included in default windows will be available on the desktop.

To request a new application be installed please contact help@pawsey.org.au


Logging out

Log out of windows when leaving the room.

Note

Your session will automatically be logged out when your booking ends.

Be sure to save all work before the end of your booking.

The Linux machine is still being configured and will be available in 2022.

titleUsing your own laptop

Supported resolutions and refresh rates

The system supports 4K UHD at 60hz refresh rate with chroma subsampling (YCbCr 4:2:0).

Windows laptops will typically connect at 30hz with full RGB and if 60hz is desired you will need to change your output resolution and colour space in your graphics driver page.

Mac laptops will usually connect at 60hz but you may still need to adjust the settings if there are any issues.

titleUsing the wireless screen sharing

You can connect to the wireless screen sharing system through any Pawsey centre or CSIRO Wi-Fi or by connecting directly to the wireless screen sharing systems dedicated public wifi (you will not get internet when doing this).


Connect to the Pawsey Guest or other internal Wi-Fi network (except eduroam) 

in your browser, type the address shown in the location of the highlighted box (note the address shown on the system may be different to the screenshot below)

titleUsing the video conferencing system

You can swap between the two cameras and change their direction and zoom:

You can change the sensitivity of the various room microphones to suit your needs:

With the windows machine

You can utilise the rooms microphones and cameras with the built in windows machine, which has Webex, Microsoft Teams and Zoom installed, and should also work with other software that works over the web


With your own laptop (TBC)

Using the USB connection on the table you can give your laptop access to the room cameras and microphones, allowing you to use your already signed-in video conferencing app of choice.

The 3D glasses are located under the leftmost seat at the rear of the Vis Lab.

Charging the glasses

All 30 sets of glasses should be plugged in when leaving the room.
