Jobs Are in Queue for a Long Time

Problem

Jobs are in the queue for longer than expected.

Explanation

There are multiple possibilities, depending on whether your allocation is exhausted, and what other users are doing.

Allocation is exhausted

For most allocations (excluding Director's Share), using up your quarterly allocation will result in dropping to low priority mode. See Allocation Results and Administration for more information. Generally, you either need to wait until the end of the quarter for the usage reset, or in exceptional circumstances submit an Extraordinary Resource Request.

Other Users

The load on the system is dependent on demand from other users. People tend to submit jobs during business hours, and the load on the system is less on weekends. Academic teaching periods, large grant application periods, public holidays, and other events all affect demand and thus the queue time for jobs. Generally you need to wait, or in exceptional circumstances submit an Extraordinary Resource Request
