Pawsey Object Storage: Acacia
Acacia is Pawsey's general purpose research data storage server. It is a part of the Pawsey storage portfolio and can be uniformly accessed from all Pawsey systems as well as from anywhere on the internet. Acacia provides new larger storage capabilities for research projects at Pawsey replacing the use of the /group
filesystem for storing data.
There are two types of accounts available on Acacia, user and project. User accounts are created for all Pawsey account holders and come with a 100GB allocation. Project accounts are provided for all active Pawsey computing and visualisation projects, and consist of 1TB of shared allocation between project members.
Acacia is a modern object storage system which can be accessed by applications compatible with the Amazon S3 protocol. It is built upon the open-source software Ceph. In practice, this means that instead of files, your data is stored as objects in buckets. In-depth documentation about Acacia characteristics, access and use from your own computer or from Pawsey clusters can be found in the Acacia - User Guide.
