These are the services that are used to access the data preservation capabilities at Pawsey.

Project Storage

This is granted to all Supercomputing, Nimbus and Visualisation projects. If you have an approved Pawsey project then you are already eligible for a 1TB allocation on this resource, which is shared amongst all project members. If you require more than 1TB, but less than 10TB, please email an appropriate request to the Pawsey helpdesk. If you require more than 10TB, then you will need to submit an application for Managed Storage, see below.

Project storage is currently provisioned on warm tier storage.

Private Storage

All members of Pawsey compute and visualisation projects are also granted a private storage quota of 100GB, that is not automatically shared with other members. This allocation is currently not expandable.

Private storage is currently provisioned on warm tier storage.

Managed Storage

This service covers a variety of potential use cases including project storage requirements that exceed the 10TB maximum as well as other collaborative projects that may require the dissemination of valuable research data. Managed storage may be applied for by registering a completed application in the Pawsey application portal

Log in to the application portal using your AAF institutional credentials (eg University or CSIRO.) If you do not have AAF credentials (eg Australian Government Department) you will need to perform an extra step on the application portal of creating a new account, with your official contact email address, before you can log in.

After you submit a managed storage application, the assessment length will depend on the size of the request. For requests that are substantially under a PB the approval and provisioning process should take no longer than 2-3 weeks. For very large requests, approval from the Pawsey board may be required which can take much longer. Managed storage is also subject to a periodic review process which is intended to keep metadata information about the allocation current. As Pawsey is publicly funded, the metadata for approved managed storage allocations (description, FoR codes, etc) will be publicly available. While we encourage the data itself to eventually be made available (under appropriate licensing) to the broader research community, access is private by default and under the control of the project owner.

Managed storage request can be for either warm tier or cool tier or even a mix of both.
